i think i promised i would do a test of the resolution of k40, so i finally did. i don't have a microscope or a scanner with high enough resolution, so i projected on a screen, which probably ate some of the lines up, but anyway: a super 8 frame can resolve about 500x350 line pairs at high contrast, so the equivalent digital resolution would be
1000x700 pixels. we can be pretty sure that the theoretical limit is higher than this, and certainly not lower. ;-)
i used a canon 814e, fully zoomed out and at f/5.6 to shoot the test in tungsten light without the filter. development was handled by kodak in switzerland obviously and i projected with a eumig s802. the test result was found by measuring where converging almost parallel lines cease being lines and become a blur. i believe this is the common method in
these types of tests.

WOW!
It would be interesting what your results would be if you mounted a strip of this super-8 onto a slide frame, projected that against a wall, and see what your results were.

VERY INTERESTING!!!
What would be an imporant point, too, is the comparation between still and moved image, perhaps a single shot frame, projected with a slide projector with a good lens and a test film shoot with several framerates. The resolution should become higher with the framerate, according to the theory.
What I did not understand concerning the K40 data published in this forum: does the stock resolve 100 lines per mm (and needs 200 "pixel" for it) or has it 100 lines per mm (and resolves 50 lines)?

WARNING...if someone gives you a slide projector....ONLY use it if it has a functioning fan.....otherwise, you will witness a super-8 in-projector dissolve!

it's 100 line pairs, so it needs 200 "pixels". a lot of info on this can be found on the kodak web site.
i'm trying to get hold of a microscope so i can do a proper examination by the way, but i guess the slide projector method would work too if i could find one...
